How To Ace The Interview

by Dan Farrell - 04/11/2007

"A common goof of interviewees is that they might tend to get tense and forget the questions that are asked to them, often having the effect that they aren't prepared for the interview."

It is vital to check the firm's interviewer's firm and the applied position to prevent being side-tracked during the interview.

Don't know the answer?

If you do not know the answer to the questions being asked, it is best to own up that you do not know the answer to the asked question and add that you will find the answer.

Dig for the level of skill or experience that the firm is looking for so that when interview day comes and the interviewer asks about your skills and expertise, you shall be ready to match it to what the organization desires.

Gathering the necessary referrals

Having a referral from one of the company employees can go a long way toward landing an interview. A typical company may receive job applications in the hundreds and usually 35% to 60% of all job openings are filled by referrals. The odds of getting hired when you have a referral are very high even if there are another 200 to 500 job applicants vying for the same position. Even if you do not know anyone from the company that could give you a referral, it is a very good idea to go to the alumni network of your university, trade groups, social networks, and professional memberships.

Remember, owning a referral dramatically multiplies your chances of getting the perfect job.
